Moar Can Openers

Open any canned food with short and long-bladed weapon (even modded) or stone.
No more need to carry a heavy can opener.

  • Short blades (e.g. knives), long blades (e.g. machetes), stone can be used to open canned food in addition to a can opener.
  • Weapon might lose condition upon opening a can.
  • Your character might get injured.
  • Opened can will be poisonous if opened with bloody weapon or bloody hands (if used a stone).
  • Some food might be spilled.
  • Time required to open a can depends on a type of opener used.


Can Openers

Vanilla can opener and stone are always available. If you use a can opener everything will be like in vanilla.
Short blades become available if your character has Strength level 3.
Long blades become available if your character has Strength level 7.
*Only weapons with the «CutPlant» tag can be used as openers.

Weapon Damage

A chance to break your weapon depends on a weapon’s durability, character’s Maintenance and Short Blade or Long Blade skill. It’s the same as a vanilla chance when attacking zombies.

For example:
Hunting Knife, Short Blade level 0, Maintenance level 0: 10% chance.
Kitchen Knife, Short Blade level 3, Maintenance level 2: 25% chance.
Machete, Long Blade level 2, Maintenance level 4: 5% chance.


A chance to get an injury depends on the following stats.

Increases chance:
Panic, Drunkenness — greatly increases an injury chance
Fatigue, Hypothermia
Clumsy trait

Decreases chance:
Short Blade or Long Blade skill (except when used a stone)
— Can opening experience (more cans you open less chance)
Hunter or Former Scout traits (one of them, effect doesn’t stack)

Your character might get a scratch or a deep wound on left or right hand. The more damage a weapon can do, the greater the chance of serious injury.

Food Poisoning

The more blood on your weapon (on character’s hands if used a stone), the more poisonous food will be (won’t kill if your character is healthy).
Wash your weapon or hands before use!

Food Spill

Opened can will contain less food depending on a type of used opener, can opening experience, Panic stat.
Short blade: min 0% spilled, max 15%.
Long blade: min 5%, max 30%.
Stone: min 10%, max 50%.


If you want to configure the mod, you need to install and enable the Mod Options mod.
Injuries, food poisoning, food spill can be disabled.
The strength requirement for small or long blades can be changed.

Supported Mods

Any mods that add melee weapon, e.g. Brita’s Weapon Pack, Scrap Weapons!** and others.
Any mods that add canned food, e.g. Hydrocraft for build 41, Infernum134’s grocery store and others.
**Scrap Weapon didn’t specify weapon tags, this mod contains fix for that.

— May conflict with other mods that override ISCraftingUI.lua and/or ISInventoryPaneContextMenu.lua.
